CSE professor Yan Gu received the NSF CAREER award

Dr. Yan Gu's CAREER award is titled: "Efficient Algorithms for Modern Computer Architecture".

Designing efficient algorithms nowadays faces very different challenges from decades ago, as computer architecture has been changing rapidly, bringing parallelism into the mainstream. For algorithm designers, it is crucial to understand key factors that determine the performance and applicability of algorithms on modern computer hardware. This project targets two critical challenges and their solutions: resolving the issue of limited memory size by designing space-efficient parallel algorithms and solutions, and resolving the issue of limited memory bandwidth by designing processing-in-memory (PIM) friendly parallel algorithms.
