In the Department of Computer Science and Engineering we are committed to fostering a diverse student and faculty population and have a strong sense of community and pride. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering offers: (a) M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science; (b) Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer Science, Computer Science with Business Applications, and Computer Engineering; and (c) M.S. degree in Computer Engineering (jointly with the ECE Department).

The Department currently has 35 faculty members that include 15 ACM/IEEE/AAAS Fellows, and 12 Young Investigator/NSF CAREER award holders. The department is heavily invested in Ph.D. education with more than 150 Ph.D. and 100 M.S. students enrolled in the 2017-18 academic year. The Department graduates over 20 Ph.D.s per year and places them in highly reputed positions in academia and industry. The CSE department research expenditures exceed $10M per year. Research focused rankings such as csrankings.org rank the department highly overall (number 37), and in the top 20 in many sub-areas including computer architecture, security, computer networks, high performance computing and others. The National Research Council (NRC) places the department very highly in its most recent ranking.

UCR faculty have the benefit of being centrally located within a short driving distance of all Southern California attractions. UCR's beautiful park-like campus is also within driving distance of other research universities such as UC Irvine, UCLA, UC San Diego, Cal Tech., USC and many Cal-State campuses.
