Teaching Assistant (TA)
Computer Science (CS) and Computer Engineering (CEN) graduate students can apply for a TA position on a quarterly basis. Computer Science PhD students have priority on any available TA position and only a few positions are available for our master's students.
An email with instructions on how to apply is sent to students after registration opens each quarter. Our TA system is only open to CS and CEN students to apply; therefore, students from a different major cannot submit an application.
Fall incoming CS and CEN master’s students can apply for a TA position starting in their second quarter in the program. BS+MS students are considered continuing students and are allowed to submit the TA application in the first quarter they enroll as graduate students.
Students from different majors should contact their home department and inquire about TA opportunities. The Computer Science and Engineering Department (CSE) does not hire students from other majors as we have a large pool of CS and CEN students applying for our TA positions.
Graduate Student Researcher (GSR)
Computer Science PhD students with a fellowship are hired as a GSR by their faculty advisor on a quarterly basis. If a faculty is seeking to hire a GSR, he/she will make employment arrangements directly with the student.
The CSE Department does not have positions available for other students to apply.
Readers are hired quarterly by the CSE Department. Graduate students, Seniors, and Juniors majoring in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Science with Business Applications, Computational Data Science, and Robotics are welcome to submit the CSE Reader/Grader Application to be considered for a Reader position.
Student Assistant Position for Graduate Students
Computer Science PhD students may be hired as Student Assistants in their last quarter in the program and while on approved Filing Fee Status.
All other graduate students seeking a Student Assistant position should visit the UCR Handshake website.
