The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of California, Riverside offers graduate study leading to the Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Computer Science. The M.S. program is ideal for professionals seeking greater depth in several areas. The Ph.D. program is heavily integrated with our research activities and is intended for well-qualified individuals who wish to pursue careers in academic or industrial research.
The Department has active research programs in many areas, including algorithm design, artificial intelligence, computational biology, computer architecture, computer networks, distributed systems, operating systems, databases, compilers, software engineering, multimedia systems, VLSI/CAD, embedded systems design, and theory of computation.
Research Facilities
The department has recently relocated to a new facility within the Marlan and Rosemary Bourns College of Engineering. Our fiber networked facilities host both teaching and research laboratories supported by the Department’s Systems Operations Group. The Systems Operations Group supports student and faculty research missions with critical knowledge and materials support. The Department maintains Microsoft Windows, Linux, Unix, and virtualized systems and services. Low latency and high bandwidth availability through redundant connections to internet core backbones provide our students and faculty with uninterrupted access to leading technology.
Computer Science Courses

Please note that prerequisites for computer science courses are strictly enforced and may only be waived by instructor approval. Non-computer science majors may register in computer science courses (graduate and undergraduate) at the discretion of the instructor and will be dropped if permission is not obtained.
