CSE professors, Ahmed Eldawy and Vassilis Tsotras, were awarded an NSF grant of $1.2 million in collaboration with Prof. Michael Carey from UCI. The awarded project will study novel research methods to apply retrospective as well as interactive analyses on the data collected from social networks, online communities, autonomous vehicles, smart-home devices, and wearable sensors. The key feature of this data is that an individual item, such as a tweet or a sensor reading, is low-value by nature but the data become of high-value when aggregated in large quantities. This project will investigate new storage, indexing, and query processing methods to provide high-value anlaytics on such big low-value data.
