Professor Amr Magdy has been awarded a new multi-institution NSF grant, in collaboration with Prof. Sergio Rey from UCR School of Public Policy, to explore new educational developments for geography curriculum incorporating geospatial technology. The project is titled "Encoding Geography - Scaling up an RPP to achieve inclusive geocomputational education", has a total budget of $1M across institutions, and in collaboration with the American Association of Geographers, San Diego State University, San Diego Mesa College, and Sweetwater Union High School District. This project target is incorporating computational thinking skills within geography educational materials to promote geospatial skills and expertise at educational stages earlier than cross-department specialized programs. This aims to improve geospatial education and contribute to meeting the market needs for this industry.
