CSE student Laila Abdelhafeez and CSE professors Amr Magdy and Vassilis Tsotras won the Runner-Up for the Best Paper Award at IEEE Conference on Mobile Data Management (MDM) 2023.

Their paper "DDCEL: Efficient Distributed Doubly Connected Edge List for Large Spatial Networks" enables converting large-scale spatial networks (at a continent-level scale) into a special planar representation that makes it easy to extract fine-granular spatial areas (city-block scale) and perform efficient map overlays.
