CSE Professor Zhaowei Tan received OASIS award

Assistant Professor Zhaowei Tan has received two OASIS awards. OASIS stands for "Opportunities to Advance Sustainability, Innovation, and Social Inclusion".

The first awarded project, AGLINK, is set to revolutionize precision agriculture by seamlessly integrating drone-based remote sensing with on-the-ground sensors. Our research will develop mobile IoT gateways and advanced long-range, low-power communication, allowing drones to gather real-time data on crop health, water stress, and other critical factors. An AI-powered cloud platform will be set up to process this data, providing farmers with smart, data-driven insights to boost yields, optimize resources, and promote sustainable farming. This is a collaborative project with Dr. Amir Verdi from CNAS, a leading expert in precision agriculture.

The second awarded project is regarding the Cellular-Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) technology, which will revolutionize transportation by enabling vehicles to communicate with each other, infrastructure, and pedestrians, potentially preventing 595,000 crashes annually in the U.S. The project will develop SEE-V2X, a testbed that gathers real-world data to advance smart transportation. SEE-V2X will integrate state-of-the-art C-V2X radios into self-driving vehicles and develop 5G equipment to capture real-time information for analysis. Built within the Riverside Innovation Corridor, this testbed will support real-world research, enhance safety, and accelerate the future of connected transportation.
